Hoosier Cancer Research Network (HCRN) currently seeks a full-time executive director to join our team. Minimum of master’s degree in science, business or health administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with experience and/or training in clinical research. Management and/or supervisory experience preferred.

Hoosier Cancer Research Network, Inc. (HCRN), a nonprofit organization located in Indianapolis, serves oncology researchers throughout the United States by working with them to develop and run multi-site investigator-initiated oncology clinical trials. With an extensive network of academic and community cancer centers, HCRN fills a unique space in the oncology research landscape.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Provide leadership and strategic vision for HCRN’s administrative, research and business development activities.
  • Provide executive input to the HCRN Board of Directors.
  • Provide management oversight and direction for the staff of the Hoosier Cancer Research Network. Engage in effective recruiting and hiring and provide training and leadership for the organization’s managers and directors to execute the day-to-day activities of HCRN.
  • Promote HCRN services as a valued resource for collaborators interested in conducting practice changing investigator-initiated research with an understanding and appreciation of its unique role in advancing the field of oncology.
  • Create a team that provides researchers with the tools they need to facilitate all aspects of clinical trials from hypothesis conception to final publications.
  • Maintain executive responsibility for regulatory compliance in clinical research and responsibility for development of and compliance with HCRN policies and processes.
  • Represent and promote HCRN to potential collaborators and national and international organizations in furtherance of the organizational mission.
  • Understanding the tax-exempt nature of the organization, require that HCRN engage in activities that appropriately reflect that status.
  • Provide strategic oversight of current and future member site participation and resolve site issues when needed.
  • Support the Board Chairperson, Board of Directors, and Clinical Trial Working Group co-chairs and members with their various responsibilities as needed.
  • Work closely with Chief Financial Officer to create fiscal year budget, based on knowledge of company trial activity and staffing needs.
  • Assume responsibility for budgeted revenue and expenses for the entire organization, and facilitate the development of collaborative grant proposals, including the development and oversight of appropriate project specific budgets.
  • Assess risks and benefit for participation in various medical research endeavors and communicate assessments to the Board of Directors.
  • Effectively communicate the visions and goals of the organization to participating physicians, clinicians, and industry collaborators to create continuity and camaraderie across the Hoosier Cancer Research Network.
  • Facilitate the development and execution of yearly organizational objectives with input from management team and all Hoosier Cancer Research Network staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of master’s degree in science, business or health administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with experience and/or training in clinical research. Management and/or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Power Point, Word, and Outlook calendar functions.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents, including business correspondence, financial documents, and documents related to clinical research. Strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to speak in front of groups.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve complex practical problems involving multiple priorities and to handle a variety of issues with limited information to reach decision in a short period of time. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Hoosier Cancer Research Network (formerly known as Hoosier Oncology Group) conducts innovative cancer research in collaboration with academic and community physicians and scientists across the United States. The organization provides comprehensive clinical trial management and support, from conception through publication. Created in 1984 as a program of the Walther Cancer Institute, Hoosier Cancer Research Network became an independent nonprofit clinical research organization in 2007.
