Courage to Climb
When Columbus North High School choir director Janie Gordon was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, her students secretly planned a benefit concert in her honor, naming it Courage to Climb. The concert became an annual event. For several years, beginning in 2011, Columbus North High School students organized this inspiring annual event, with donations to HCRN exceeding $27,000. These gifts strengthen our ability to provide funding for innovative research in a variety of cancer types, leading to improvements in care and treatment options that are tailored to each patient’s unique characteristics.
Reps for Research
HCRN Chairman Chris Fausel has raised the bar in the fight against cancer. Since 2015, he has issued a unique challenge to friends and supporters of HCRN: the Reps for Research challenge. Combining his interest in strength training and his passion for investigator-initiated research, Fausel invites pledges for every bench-press “rep” he completes at the Arnold Sports Festival’s 5K Pump and Run event in Columbus, Ohio. To date, Reps for Research has raised more than $26,000 in donations to HCRN.
Indiana Department of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary
In 2014 and 2015, the Indiana Department of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary (formerly known as the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW) donated gifts of $12,500 and $14,500, respectively, to Hoosier Cancer Research Network. These generous donations are just one example of the VFW Auxiliary’s long-standing support for cancer research. For more than 100 years, the VFW Auxiliary has served American veterans and active duty service members through a variety of programs, including Cancer Aid and Research. Each of its 4,500 local auxiliaries participates in raising funds toward the program. With more than 465,000 members nationwide, the impact is significant.

Advocacy Organizations
Advances in research and patient care would not be possible without a strong network of advocates and advocacy organizations. As part of our mission, HCRN seeks to inform patients about clinical trial options and to connect advocacy organizations with leading academic investigators nationwide to accelerate scientific discovery that translates to improvements in patient care.
