Former HCRN leader, Dr. Robin Zon, appointed ASCO president

Hoosier Cancer Research Network congratulates Dr. Robin Zon on assuming her new role as president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Zon served as HCRN’s vice chair from 2006-2009, and as chief community officer from 2009-2010.

Dr. Zon is chair of the South Bend Medical Foundation. She previously served as physician emeritus and president at Michiana Hematology Oncology in Mishawaka, Indiana. She also served as director of breast cancer oncology at the Cincinnati Cancer Advisors (CCA).

Dr. Zon has been an involved ASCO member and volunteer since 1997. She was recognized as ASCO’s Advocate of the Year and received the Distinguished Achievement Award for her noteworthy involvement. She was a member of the Board of Governors for ASCO’s CancerLinQ and was past chair of ASCO’s Government Relations Committee. Additionally, she served on the Board of Directors from 2010-2013.

During an interview with Healio, Dr. Zon stated, “I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead this incredible organization. Between myself and ASCO leadership, we will work to drive knowledge to action for everyone in the global community. We want to elevate not only our members but, ultimately, their benefactors — the patients — to provide them with the best care possible.”

About Hoosier Cancer Research Network:

Hoosier Cancer Research Network conducts innovative cancer clinical trials in collaboration with more than 100 academic and community clinical research sites across the United States. Our studies are designed by cancer researchers from our member institutions. The HCRN staff includes 55 team members who work together to support all aspects of the studies we manage, from the time we receive the initial concept from a researcher through the final publication of the study results. Currently, we are supporting more than 70 clinical trials across a wide range of cancer types. Over our 40-year history, more than 10,000 participants have enrolled in our clinical trials, leading to important discoveries that help cancer patients live longer and better after their cancer diagnosis.
