West Cancer Center is a community-based oncology practice located in Memphis. Since 1979, the physicians and staff at West Cancer Center have been providing the highest quality care and cutting-edge therapies for their patients located in the Midsouth. Its multidisciplinary physician group has 35 specialists in medical oncology, hematology, gynecologic oncology, breast surgery, radiation oncology, endocrinology, and diagnostic and interventional radiology, as well as pain and palliative care.

The clinical research program, under the direction of Lee S. Schwartzberg, MD, FACP, has successfully conducted more than 350 phase I – III clinical trials. West Cancer Center’s New Therapeutics Program (Phase I), under the direction of Daruka Mahadevan, MD, PhD, has successfully conducted 46 Phase I studies, including first-in-human studies. Dr. Mahadevan directs a translational oncology and experimental therapeutics laboratory at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, conducting pre-clinical drug development in both hematologic and solid malignancies.

In 2012, West Cancer Center formed a partnership with Methodist Healthcare and The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), with the goal of transforming and advancing cancer care in the Midsouth. This partnership capitalizes on the strengths of each partner in the planning and development of a new, fully integrated cancer center program. Under the leadership of Dr. Lee Schwartzberg, Division Chief of Hematology and Oncology in the Department of Medicine at UTHSC, West Clinic physicians have faculty appointments in the College of Medicine, and actively participate in the training and education efforts of the ACGME accredited medical oncology fellowship program.
