Hoosier Oncology Group announces new name and website

Hoosier Oncology Group, an independent nonprofit cancer research organization in Indianapolis announces it is changing its name to Hoosier Cancer Research Network. The change, which goes into effect May 15, reflects the company’s steady growth over 30 years into a nationwide network of more than 130 member sites and more than 400 physicians and research practitioners.

The company also introduces a new website today at www.hoosiercancer.org. The website provides information about Hoosier Cancer Research Network’s clinical trials, services, member network, news and events, giving opportunities, donor profiles, and personal stories in memory or honor of those impacted by cancer.

Hoosier Cancer Research Network continues the mission and vision of the Hoosier Oncology Group, which is to form unparalleled relationships between academic, community, pharmaceutical, and biotech partners with the goal of advancing cancer research, education, and patient advocacy. The organization’s highly qualified team provides comprehensive study management and support for cancer clinical trials, from conception and study design through project completion and publication.

“Hoosier Cancer Research Network continues to build on the effort of our founding physicians through our expansive network of community, academic, and international sites,” said Christopher A. Fausel, PharmD, chairman of the board of directors. “As clinical trials evolve with the advent of genomics-based treatment, it is more important than ever that institutions work cooperatively. Hoosier Cancer Research Network provides the resources and expertise needed to manage the multi-center studies that are central to cancer research today.”

Hoosier Cancer Research Network’s expertise in managing multi-center investigator-initiated trials led to its selection in 2011 as the administrative headquarters of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium. The organization also provides clinical trial management and sample logistics services for the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium, as well as management of industry-initiated trials.

Hoosier Cancer Research Network was formed in 1984 by a dedicated group of community-based oncologists and faculty members at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center. Its founders, Drs. Rafat Ansari, Lawrence Einhorn, William B. Fisher, Patrick Loehrer, Sr., RM Prasad Mantravadi, and Kenneth Pennington, had a vision to bring emerging oncology research from academic cancer centers to communities throughout Indiana.

The concept was revolutionary, and as the organization’s reputation grew, so did its membership network. Today, Hoosier Cancer Research Network includes sites in 36 states as well as Australia, Canada, Peru, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

Over its 30-year history, Hoosier Cancer Research Network has conducted more than 150 clinical trials in a variety of cancer types and supportive care, with more than 4,400 participants to date. Hoosier Cancer Research Network’s studies have produced more than 300 publications and presentations.
