HCRN seeks Communications Intern
Hoosier Cancer Research Network (HCRN) is currently seeking a part-time communications intern. Students working toward a college degree in Marketing/Communications, Advertising, Public Relations or English are preferred.
Job Description
The communications intern will assist with communications tasks including, but not limited to: writing and editing, photo and video editing, web and social media analytics, social media content, graphic design, contact management and other communications and administrative support tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education/Experience:
- Completed or working toward a college degree (junior level and up), preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)
- Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications a plus
- Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing
- Desired Skills:
- Must be computer literate (working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel).Knowledge of website content management and graphic design a plusPossess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator) applications is preferred. Training will be provided.
- Learning / Work Style
- Genuine enthusiasm for creating compelling marketing materials to support Hoosier Cancer Research Network and Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium.
- Self-starter, good time management, creative, with ability to communicate in a professional manner
- Ability to work well independently, and collaboratively within a team
Duties will be tailored to intern’s interest/area of study, but typical duties of the marketing and communications intern include, but are not limited to:
- Social Media
- Draft and organize social media content to promote blogs, videos and media coverage on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn
- Contribute to social media quantitative and qualitative analytics reporting.
- Create and coordinate content for social media campaigns.
- Content Creation/Graphic Design
- Design patient fliers, graphics, PowerPoints, and other marketing materials.
- Assist in planning, writing, and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters.
- Demonstrate ability to create, manipulate, and combine a variety of media into a finished work, from sources including video footage, audio recordings, presentation slides, photographs, and graphics.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others on assigned projects.
- Contact Management
- Manage contact lists across multiple platforms (email marketing, website, Outlook).
Other projects as assigned.
Time Commitment: 10-20 hours weekly. Hours and work dates are flexible and may be set according to applicant’s class/work schedule.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as computer software and documentation and procedure manuals. Will have the ability to write routine reports and business correspondence.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete issues. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
